FRO Resources

This complex oocura on slopes of small upland fans. The Cushman soil
developed from loamy, calcareous alluvium from nearby loamstonw on
undulating fans. The unit is comprised of about 60 percent Cushman soils
and 35 percent rock outcrop. Small areas of Boettoher soils and shallow
to deep loamy Torriorthents were iraluded in mapping. Boettcher soils are
moderately deep and fins textured. These included soils oooupy about 15
percent of the unit.
The Cushman soil is moderately deep and well-drairwd. Ina typical
profile, the surface and upper subsoil layer is light yellowish brown silt
Loam about 9 inches thick. The argi111c horizon is brownish yellow silty
olay loam about 11 inches thick. The tower subsoil is light yellowish
brown calcareous silty clay loam about 6 inches thick and is underlain
with very pale brown calcareous silty clay loam to a depth of 34 irahes.
This Cushman soil has moderate permeability and medium runoff. The
• erosipn hazard is moderate from wind and water. Available waterholding
capacity is moderately high to high. Effective rooting depth is 70 to 40
inches.
The rock outcrop is primarily exposed siltstone, loamstone and sandstone
bedrock which is calcareous, brown to yellow and slightly fractured.
Included with rock outcrop are very shallow and shallow skeletal soils
adjacent to exposed bedrock.
This soil is used for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat, The
vegetation is primarily mixed perennial grasses, big sagebrush and
cheatgrass.
The average depth of suitable topsoil material is 26 inches. This
material is rated fair to good with suitability deoreasing with depth,
C
II.I-15
