This
the existing
Seam will be
Under this permit revision, unless market conditions deteriorate,
current employment will be maintained for at least 15 years and the
country will continue to receive 275,000 tons per year of high quality
coal from Bear Coal Company, as well as receive royalties, since the
coal is owned by the United States.
There will be no new surface disturbance. Facilities such as office
buildings, shops, roads, stockpiles, ponds, etc. are already owned and
in place at the Bear Coal Company No. 3 Mine and will not be relocated
or changed. Since there will be no new surface disturbance,
additional environmental impacts from mining will be minimal.
It is emphasized that this permit revision is not for a new mine in
virgin country, but rather covers an existing operation. Both the
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division and the Office of Surface
• Mining have significant familiarity with the Bear Coal Company's
present operations. The State has evaluated the Bear Coal Company
mining operations through a number of permits, technical revisions,
and amendments over the past years. With this in mind, it is hoped
that the past familiarity will allow the review to progress speedily.
Bear Coal Company is aware that this revision will be carefully
scrutinized. Recognizing this, we hope to maintain open lines of
communication. Specifically, I invite any of the staff reviewing this
permit revision to feel free to contact me or ACZ Inc. with any
questions or requests.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to
very prompt and productive action on the permit revision.
Sincerely,
BEAR COAL COMPANY
'1rt/,i~ 1. ~,.... /~ r~
William A.
