The .Bear Coal Company <br />operations consist of a small room and pillar mining-;operation in the <br />Bear No. 3 Mine. A permit revision is being .5ubmi.tted to effect <br />compliance under the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act and <br />the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act. <br />Accompanying this letter is a permit revision to .increase the mining.:- <br />area in the Bear No. 3 Mine. The new area to be mined is currently - <br />owned by Atlantic Richfield Company ("ARCO"). Under-.the terms of an _~' <br />agreement with ARCO, in June of 1985, Bear Coal Company acquired .the .... <br />right to mine coal on Federal Coal. Lease No. C-0117192,. -The °n.et -: <br />effect of this request is to allow the mining of coal on Federal Lease.: <br />No. C-0117192 which is directly adjacent to the Bear No. 3 Mine .on <br />Federal Lease No. D-052501. <br />With the addition of coal on Lease No. 0117192 to Bear Goal's reserve . <br />base, it would only seem logical to move mining operations to the west <br />onto the new Federal Lease rather than continue south on the 'current <br />Federal Lease No. D052501. By mining directly west from the active <br />mine workings into the new mining area, productivity will be increased <br />and costs will be reduced. By this permit revision, Bear Goal will. <br />still mine the C Coal Seam: The Bear Coal Company will submit plans <br />to mine the B Coal Seam at a later date, as indicated in the Bear Coal.; <br />Mine Permit. The estimated total production, manpower, equipment, and.- <br />mining methods will all remain the same.
