- 24 -
u
C~
•
using coring equipment if large sandstone boulders would be
encountered, and in the bedrock. The boring would be care-
fully sampled so that a sufficient number of samples of the
fill material could be obtained. An attempt would be made to
obtain also samples of the soils below the fill and of the
underlying bedrock.
Three additional borings would be located below the toe
of the crushing and screening level fill. Two of them would
be used for the installation of the monitoring wells; one of
them would be located directly below the toe of the fill. The
purpose of the borings below the toe of the fill is to .:
obtain samples for the testing of physical properties of
foundation material. It is also necessary to obtain suf-
ficient data on the conditions of the Mancos Shale that is
present at this location.
Two of these borings will be used for the installation
of monitoring wells as discussed in the next section.
Two additional borings would be located at the diversion
channel cut; they would provide data on the depth of the
buried channels and the character of the soils. They would
also assist in the evaluation of whether a landslide may
exist at this location.
A series of six to eight test pits would be excavated
and backfilled during the Phase 2 work (a backhoe would be
used for this purpose). Two test pits would be excavated at
the diversion ditch cut to verify the geologic conditions
on the soil-rock contact within the cut. The remaining test
pits would be used for the verification of material propertie
of the fills on the site.
GFOXYOQO CONMfN1G, INC.
