Two additional minor drainages
are located within the proposed area.
The proposed waste disposal area is covered by colluvial
soils of an unknown thickness. The soils can be seen in
several cuts that have been excavated along the access road.
It is probable that the thickness of the colluvial soils is
considerable. Underlying the colluvial soil are rocks of the
Mancos Shale Formation. There are no outcrops of the Mancos
Shale in the area.
There are several factors which are not very favorable
for the development of the waste disposal pile at this site;
firstly, the slope at the east side of the area is fairly
steep. This steep slope was formed by the erosion o£ the
creek where the sedimentation ponds were built. It should be
expected that difficult foundation conditions at this east
part of the waste pile will be encountered and expensive
measures will probably be required. Secondly, the waste pile
would cover two minor drainages. It would be necessary to
carefully design the changes in the surface drainage pattern
and subdrains would be required along both these drainages.
Thirdly, hydrological conditions are not favorable. It should
be expected that ground water exists along the valley of the
creek where the sedimentation ponds are constructed; the
c[aaroQOCawxmw.n+c.
