- z o -

•
L J
faces that have been successfully revegetated would be
disturbed and new vegetation of the new cut surfaces would
be required.
We feel that a selective approach to individual cut
reclamation should be accepted. Soil cuts that do not com-
prise any significant hazards in the future should be speci-
fied and left in the existing conditions. Cuts where failures
could result in disturbance of the area above them should be
reclaimed so that acceptable factors of safety are achieved.
Obviously, details of the reclamation of the soil cuts can
be worked out only after discussions with the mine manage-
ment, representatives of MLR, and the Colorado Westmoreland,
Inc. consultants. They cannot be resolved within Phase 1 of
our studies.
5.5 MAN-MADE FILLS
The present conditions of the numerous fills at the
site were discussed in the previous sections. It is very
probable that the factors of safety will not be acceptable
for the reclamation. We expect that the configurations of
at least the largest fills will have to be changed so that
acceptable factors of safety are achieved. The increase of
factors of safety could be achieved by the flattening of the
cut faces to an acceptable slope. Detailed analyses will be
required during Phase 2 of our studies to evaluate the
necessary changes in the configurations of the fills.
ccanoao coraumNC, iHC.
