- 18 -
•
•
•
as required by pertinent regulations will have to be achieved
during the mine reclamation.
In following paragraphs a general discussion on the
future reclamation of individual cuts and fills is presented.
5.2 DIVERSION DITCH CUT
As discussed earlier, it is evident that the factors of
safety of the present diversion ditch cut are very close to
unity. It should be expected that even if the cut slope is
flattened at present, as recommended, factors of safety still
will be unacceptable for the reclamation.
ode believe that acceptable factors of safety could be
achieved if the upper portion of the cut is flattened and the
material obtained from the excavation placed as a buttress
against the lower part of the cuts. Such an arrangement would
increase the factors of safety to an acceptable level. The
exact cut configuration would have to be estimated with the
help of analytical methods; this work is being proposed for
Phase 2 of the geotechnical and design studies.
Recommended changes in the cut configuration would result'
in the loss of the diversion channel that is constructed below
the toe of the cut. It would be possible to relocate the
diversion channel farther to the south below the toe of the
proposed buttress; we feel, however, that it might be more ~
acceptable to eliminate the diversion ditch completely and to ~I
return to the original drainage pattern. The diversion channel
is necessary at present to protect the mine operations against
flooding; in the future, after the cessation of the mining
GEOMYDiO CONfULiNlf., INC.
