M98177GE
I•
The proposed conveyor alignment had been cleared of vegetation
with some fill placed for the upper approximate two thirds (2 /3) of
the proposed alignment. The proposed conveyor alignment slopes
down to the southeast at an inclination of about three (3) to one
t (1) (horizontal to vertical) and flatter.
A small spring was observed about one-hundred fifty (150) feet
west of the proposed conveyor alignment in the existing road cut
downhill from the last switch back before the mine portal bench.
The spring contained a small amount of flowing water.
The reclaim tunnel and stacking tube area appears to have been
somewhat graded prior to our field study. The stacking tube and
reclaim tunnel area slopes down generally to the south with about
five (5) feet of topographic relief across the proposed site.
The proposed location of the truck load out surge bin slopes down
to the southeast with about three (3) feet of topographic relief
across the proposed surge bun site. The surge bin site contains a
cover of native ground vegetation. The proposed surge bin location
appears to be in an area which may have contained structures in the
recent past.
2.3 Subsurface Conditions
The subsurface exploration consisted of observing, describing and
sampling the soil materials encountered in eleven (11) auger
advanced test borings. The approximate locations of the test
borings are shown on Figure 2. The logs describing the soil
J materials encountered in the test borings are presented in Appendix
A.
The soil materials encountered in the test borings consisted
generally of various mixtures of clay, sand and gravel material
with varying amounts of cobbles to a depth of about fifty-seven
(57) feet. The soils varied from sandy and gravelly clay to sand,
gravel and clay mixture. The sandy and gravelly clay soils tested
have a low to moderate swell potential with some test results
indicating high swell potential. The sandy and gravelly clay soils
tested have a potential for large amounts of consolidation under
heavy loading conditions.
No formational material was encountered in our test borings to a
depth of about fifty-seven (57) feet, the maximum depth explored.
4
Lambert and ~.gsocistes
GONSULTHG GEOTEGMMiGL EHGwEE RS •MG
M~TERI~L TEStING
