M98177GE
• downhill conveyor will be supported on isolated footing pads
~ located along the alignment of the conveyor.
We understand that the proposed site development will include
constructing excavated cut slopes and placed compacted fill slopes
near the area of the stacking tube and stockpile area.
1.2 Scope of Services
Our services included geotechnical engineering field and labora-
tory studies, analysis of the acquired data and report preparation
for the proposed site. The scope of our services is outlined
below.
- The field study consisted of describing and sampling the soil
~. materials encountered in eleven (11) auger advanced test
borings at the proposed conveyor system location. One (1) test
boring was advanced near the truck load out surge bin proposed
location. Three (3) test borings were advanced near the
proposed location of the reclaim tunnel and stacking tube.
Five (5) test borings were located along the proposed alignment
of the downhill conveyor. One (1) test boring was advanced-
near each of the two (2) proposed locations of the transfer
station.
~~ - The soil materials encountered in the test borings were de-
scribed and samples retrieved for the subsequent laboratory
study.
- The laboratory study included tests of select soil samples
obtained during the field study to help assess:
. the soil strength potential (internal friction angle and
cohesion) of samples tested,
. the swell and expansion potential of the samples tested,
. the settlementlconsolidation potential of the samples
tested,
. the moisture content and density of samples tested, and
f the soil sulfate concentration of soil samples tested.
f - This report presents our geotechnical engineering comments,
suggestions and recommendations for planning and design of site
1 development including:
2

lambert ana ~~,~ociares
CONSULTiHG GEOTECNNIUL ENGINEERS ENO
MITE Ni~L TESTiHG
