Mapping Units 4C, 4E, 4F
• Abor silty clay
Abor silty clay occupies gently sloping to moderately steep upland
areas. The soils are underlain by Mancos or Lewis shale at depths of 24
to 40 inches. Mapped areas are irregular in shape but large in area.
This area is encountered in the 20900 Lease Area at Mine 2 and in tracts
along Foidel Creek south of Pinnacle Peak.
Small areas of Bulkley silty clay (l0E) are included in mapping. They
are usually in small irregular shaped areas. Also, some areas have a
thin cobble mantle or gravelly surface.
• The soil is well drained. It is very slowly permeable but has a high
water holding capacity. Moderate surface runoff occurs when soils are
dry and rapid runoff when soils are wet. When the soil dries, cracks up
to two inches wide and three feet deep will form. Many pressure faces
are visible in this soil.
•
-5-
