Mapping Unit 70
• Skyway sandy loam
Soils of the Skyway series consist of moderately deep, well-drained
soils that formed in material weathered from sandstone. Skyway soils
are found on mountain slopes ranging from 12 to 65 percent. This series
was described for Routt County based upon its development under mature
aspen at the west end of Eckman Park.
Skyway soils are similar to and are located near Coutis (34), Winevada
(53), Skylick (66), and Splitro soils. Coutis and Skylick are deep.
Winevada soils have more than 18 percent clay in the control section.
Splitro soils have bedrock above 20 inches. Skyway soils have more than
• 10 percent sandstone gravels in the control section.
Typically the surface layer is a very dark brownish sandy loam about 16
inches thick. The lower surface layer is grayish brown sandy loam about
10 inches thick overlying sandstone.
Permeability is moderate. Effective rooting depth ranges from 20 to 40
inches. Available water capacity is low. Surface runoff is slow.
Erosion hazard is moderate. Reaction is neutral to slightly acidic.
C~
-14 -
