Sundance Sand and Gravel Resource, M-2006-073
Response to Adequacy Review 01
February 20, 2007
Page 7
2. The relationship of present vegetation types to soil types; or alternatively,
the information may be presented on a map. Please provide this
information.
Where water collects in small pools, the soils have characteristics of
hydric soils, and the plants on these soils are typically hydrophytic wetland
plants.
3. Estimates of average annual production for hay meadows and croplands,
and carrying capacity for rangelands on or in the vicinity of the affected
land, if the choice of reclamation is for range or agriculture. Please provide
the production information and carrying capacity.
The agricultural fields are seeded with alfalfa and hay. The historical
production of hay at the site varies upon the crop and the amount of
moisture annually. Typically the crop has been varied at the site to
include both grass hay and alfalfa. The landowners' typical yield from the
past 5+ years averages 2.5 tons/acre for the site.
Exhibit L:
No response is required for this comment. Lafarge understands that reclamation
costs will be reviewed pending a determination that all mining and reclamation
plans are adequate.
Exhibit M:
The following permits and regulatory requirement were the subject of the DRMS
comment concerning Exhibit M, each addressed in turn:
1. Lafarge activities on the proposed site do no warrant the need for a
Radioactive Source Material license.
2. A wetlands delineation was completed for the site indicating a few
potential wetlands on the property, but outside the active mining area.
Lafarge is in the process of requesting a jurisdictional determination from
the US Army Corps of Engineers to see whether a 404 permit would be
needed. Lafarge's current mining proposal shows avoidance of all
identified potential wetlands on the property so we do not anticipate
needing a 404 permit.
3. Lafarge will not be applying for a permit to construct a dam as our
operations and reclamation will maintain existing ground level conditions.
4. Lafarge would access Old Pueblo Road, which is a County road, before
entering CDOT right of way and I-25. CDOT has approved the traffic
