Sundance Sand and Gravel Resource, M-200G073
Response to Adequacy Review 01
February 20, 2007
Page 3
rights to developed water and augmentation uses. This reclamation plan
does not preclude post-mining use of the site for intensive agriculture.
Rather, the intent is to provide a resilient land cover for post-mining
economic use of the site in a variety of contingencies. Cattle currently
occupy the site, and cattle are an economically beneficial post-mining use.
2. Rule 6.4.5 (2)(c) Implementation of Reclamation Plan:
A. The property will be returned to rangeland with developed water storage.
Please see response to comment above regarding Type of Reclamation.
B. Below is some additional information and updates to the mining and
reclamation plans. The mining phases will be reclaimed as mining
progresses throughout the site. Activities will begin within the area
shown on the map as the processing area.
Processing Area
Within the processing area are the plants, fresh water and silt ponds.
This use will remain for the entire life of the mine and be reclaimed at the
end. This area will be reclaimed using the visual berms initially placed
around the perimeter of the processing area.
Phasel
Phase I mining will begin in the area shown on the map to be reclaimed
as rangeland. This will create a large open cell in which all of the
overburden from this area, along with the area to be reclaimed as water
storage, will be placed. A slurry wall will be constructed around the
perimeter of the water storage area prior to mining. It is estimated that it
will take less than 4 years to complete mining in this phase along with an
additional year for reclamation. In addition, the water storage area in
phase one will be stripped in multiple stages to minimize the amount of
disturbance at any one time. The water storage area will be mined to
the final reclaimed slopes.
Phase IIA
Phase IIA will be mined using standard stripping and dewatering sand
and gravel mining methods (stripping, perimeter trenched, dewatered,
and gravel extracted). It is anticipated that it will take up to 2 years to
complete mining in this area. This area will be backfilled with
overburden from Phase IIA and Phase IIB. It may take up to 3 years to
complete the backfilling of this area to complete the reclamation once
mining is completed in this phase.
