Sundance Sand and Gravel Resource, M-2006-073
Response to Adequacy Review Ot
February 20, 2007
Page 2
Exhibit A:
A description of the location of the main entrance to the Sundance Resources
site is given, as follows, in degrees of latitude and longitude:
Lat: deg 38 min 35 sec 9.97
Long: deg 104 min 39 sec 57.17
This driveway location was previously included on page 2 of the 112 permit
application form.
Exhibit C:
Rule 6.4.3(e) calls for the applicant to identify "the type of present vegetation
covering the affected lands." In response to the Division's adequacy comment,
the applicant has added to Exhibit C-1 more labels and a narrative "Vegetation
Analysis."
In sum, extensive mapping of vegetation is not necessary, as all affected land is
currently cropland, alternating between bare soil and alfalfa over the course of
the typical year. Exhibit J may be considered a supplement to this description,
as well as Attachment E to the original application (the ERO wetland study).
Exhibit D:
Based on the structure of the Division's adequacy letter, no direct response is
required regarding this comment. As noted, responses will be found under
Exhibits E and G below. Please note that the operator will comply with all
applicable performance standards under Rule 3, including Rule 3.1.5 concerning
materials handling, Rule 3.1.6 concerning hydrology, and Rule 3.1.9 concerning
topsoiling.
Exhibit E:
1. Rule 6.4.5 (2)(a) Type of Reclamation: Lafarge and Sundance
Investments have proposed to reclaim the land to water storage and
rangeland. The reclamation plan Map shows that approximately 270
acres of the mined area will be converted to water storage. The remaining
167 acres would be reclaimed to rangeland. The reasoning for this
division of reclamation types was due to the amount of overburden and
topsoil remaining; the mined-out areas in the floodplain were prioritized for
bringing the site back up to near-existing grades.
Rangeland, as opposed to cropland, is an appropriate land use and
provides appropriate flexibility in consideration of the diversion of irrigation
