•
(: _.
The aliwial fill of the vat ley represents sediments derived In the
Large drainage basin In the Met Mantalns contained with detritus derived
from the pediment deposits at the foot of the mo~v~talns. The stream is
not cortpetent enagh, nor does it have the capacity Lo move the size and
volume of the sediment load. Newlin Creek is Dresently In a graded
condition in the reach fran the foot of the mountains to a point Just
downstream fran tha northeast corner of the permit boundary.
•
The G.E.C. "prospect pit" exposes the aliwial fill of Newlin Creek
valley Just north of the penntt boundary In the NE l/4 of Section 25.
The upstream face of the excavation extends across the entire valley,
into the pediment deposits on both sides and well into the bedrock
(VermeJo formation, sandstones and shales). The allwlal valley fill is
very similar to the pediment deposits and Is at least partly derived
from Chan. No seepage was seen on the upstream face of the excavation,
either from the allwlal f111 or the pediment deposits. These deposits
appear to be dry. The excavation face shows that a potential hydraulic
connection exists between the pediment caps on either side and the
valley ailwiun, at least to the area of the excavation. The follwvtng
diagram Illustrates this relationship.
~ee(i~wew+r~C'i
~/~~~\
Eed.xk
A(e~alin Leek
Y~Iley Allwivm
~d•o~k

of
