Due to the nature of the operation topsoil will be removed
from 2 acres in advance of the mining activity the first year the
' operation enters area E. This will be necessary to obtain enough
topsoil to reclaim areas D and F.
' Topsoil will be stable when replaced. The manure will act
as a binder and discing will occur perpendicular to the slope as
will the drilling of seed. This action provided furrows for
' water retention as well as soil conservation.
Testing of the soil is not required. The manuring will
provide the nitrogen base and other nutrients (Phosphorous and
' Potassium) needed for seed germination and seedling
establishment. The replaced topsoil will not be stockpiled long
enough to change its natural fertility. Therefore random sam-
' pling for amendment analysis is not expected to be necessary.
No vegetation piles are anticipated due to the lack of woody
' vegetation at the site.
Revegetation: The land will be revegetated with diverse,
effective, and long-lasting native vegetation that is
1 regenerative and will provide similar ground cover to that which
is now present. The slopes will be commensurate with the natural
' landform in the area, and will not be too steep to be transversed
by livestock
.
The revegetation seed mix has taken into consideration
' environmental factors presented in Exhibits H, I, G, and K, and
micro-climate variations i.e., slope, aspect, and wind direction.
lbs
' -
Proposed Seed Mix (To Be Drilled) PLS/acre
' Blue grama (Bouteloua gracilis) 2.0
Buffalograss (Buchloe dactyloides) 0.5
'
Side oats grama (Bouteloua curtipendula) 2.0
' Three-awn (Aristida longiseta) 3.0
Sanfoin (legume) 1.0
' Sand dropseed (Sporobolus cryptandrus) 1.0
TOTAL 9.5
1
NOTE: The above seed mix does not
include (orbs and low shrubs.
