• ~ •
gazing range, and the regional airport. Particularly steep are the slopes
facing south to Naturita and the San Miguel Rii er Canyon, but occasionally in
the north facing slope also. These slopes are compatible with safe livestock
gazing, with no need for traversing with farm machinery. Since the site's
slopes are primarily north facing they are easier to re-vegetate due to better
moisture retention. Mulching and intensive, managed seeding are also
positive factors for successful range Bass establishment.
8) Before resuming mining under this 112'permit (Initial Phase), the
south-central overburden stockpile from (previous operations shall be
transferred for permanent disposal to the west kvorked-out pit area side-slopes
for slope reduction, and small portions to spread evenly to level-up that floor
area on a very shallow drainage gadient to the northeast comer. Outfall of
stormwater at that corner shall be controlled Iby introduction in to the host
ranch irrigationstorage pond for irrigation and,' stock water. Steep headwalls
from completed excavation of previous operations in that portion of the site
shall have been previously slope-reduced, finis~t-graded, and topsoiled.
The north-central overburden stockpile shall also be permanently disposed of
in on-going highwall slope reduction, before) the completion of Secondary
Phase excavations. Excess overburden stripped from newly excavated areas
under this permit (not utilized for headwall sloe-reduction) shall be disposed
of in northwest depression fill disposal terrace.
Upon completion of the gavel extraction in the south-central (initial
excavation) area, west of the existing excavatx'on, the remaining mining area
to the north shall be stripped of topsoil and overburden. Overburden shall be
backfilled into the recently excavated initial exc area to reduce the steep
headwalls to a finished 2 to 1 grade. Excess overburden shall be placed in an
embankment fill within the depression in the) northwest quarter of the site.
Topsoil shall be added to the topsoil stockpiles at the site's west boundary.
After completion of all mining in the permit rea, any remaining stockpiled
overburden shall be placed as needed against y remaining steep headwalls
of the worked-out excavation to reduce backslopes.
(3.1.7} ~ (s.1.7} Water Considerations - Nuc1a C-C Ditch hall supply operations
water from Weimer Ranch rights leased to the Aerator; no Bound water
resources aze to be affected.
(3.1.7} Wildlife -not applicable, no special considerations necessary
{3. t.9} Topsoiling -Stockpiles of topsoil from previous pperations and all surface soils
stripped from excavation or disposal areas shat) be salvaged and stockpiled
along and inside of the south and west boundaries of the permit area. Critical
area seeding shall be broadcast onto the stockpiles for interim protective
vegetative cover. Final reclamation re-seeding~in the pit floor of all
excavation areas of this permit area (current & ~ re-permit) shall be postponed
for the life of the mine in order to utilize that s~ace for product processing
and stockpiling operations. Salvageable topsoil is not expected to be found in
sufficient quantities to topsoil the entire disturbed area. Stockpiled topsoil
16
