1
A 10~D percent recovery is expected in the longwall panels since the longwall mining extracts the entire
mineable seam height in a solid block of coal. It should be noted that the 100 percent extraction is for
the longwall panels only, and does not take into account the coal lefr in the gate entries and baaier
pillazs.
' The total recoverable reserve in the D and B Seam is estimated at 50,483,000 tons. When compazed
with the corresponding total mineable reserve of 155,932,000 tans, the overall recovery from the mine
' will be 32.4 percent.
43 Coal Reserves By Lease
' Western Fuels has estimated the coal reserves for the Deserado Mine logical mining unit by lease.
' Reserve estimates have been made for the categories of: coal reserve base, mineable reserve base,
recoverable raw coal reserves, and recoverable clean coal. The category of recoverable raw coal
reser+es coincides with the category "recoverable coal reserves" as defined in CFR Title 43 S S
' 3480.0-5. However, Westem Fuels' product from the Deserado Mine is "recoverable clean coal" for
which there is no corresponding category in the Code of Federal Regulations.
Westem Fuels has identified eight (8) coal seams which are correlatable over at least a portion of the
Deserado mine logical mining unit area. Of the eight seams, only coal contained in the B and D Seams
is of adequate thickness over enough areal extent to be considered mineable. Al] reserve estimates are
based on a coal density of 84.24 Ibs/ft' or 1834.75 tons/acre foot.
' 43.1 Coal Reserve Rase The coal reserve base of the Deserado mine logical mining unit, as defined
in CFR Title 43 subsection 3480.0-5, has been estimated for the following eight (8) coal seams: Iles,
' B Se:un, D Seam, E Seam, F Seam, G Seam, H Seam, and the J Seam. Reserves (coal reserve base)
were estimated for each of these eight (8) seams using the following criteria:
• minimum seam thickness of ?8 inches to an elevation 500 feet below the lowest elevation on
the Deserado Mine Logical Mining Unit
' • minimum seam thickness of 48 inches from a depth of 500 feet to 3000 feet below the lowest
' elevation on the Deserado Mine Logical Mining Unit
The lowest elevation on the Deserado Mine Logical Mining Unit is 5310 feet above mean sea level.
' This point is located along the White River in Federal Coal Lease C-0126669. Therefore, the dividing
line for minimum seam thickness between 28 inches and 48 inches is where each seam crosses the
