-~-
It is the understanding of the Division that there will
be a lot of blasting taking place during the mining
operation. It is also true that the Niobrara formation
is not impervious. What about fractures that would
likely be caused by the blast? Are there any plane to
dewater the pit? Please provide a detailed ground water
modeling to show that the operation will not impact the
deep aquifers so the Division can come up with the same
conclusions you did.
g. Has the operator done a water mass balance to conclude as
stated in page 8 that recharge to the unconsolidated
valley fill at Dowe Flats is principally from snow melt
and rainfall. If not please provide the data to support
your conclusions.
h. Why was only one well pulled on the up gradient (DFMW-1)
and three in the down gradient portion of the permit
application Are the tables in G-9 the average for the
four wells? Please provide in a detailed explanation how
the numbers were divided.
Why are the concentrations for calcium hardness and
sodium much higher for DFMW3. Are all these values
dissolved values?
i. Please provide proof that a water augmentation plan is
being submitted for approval by the State Engineer's
Office to augment any water loss due to evaporation, etc.
for the exposed groundwater on the site.
j. Please provide proof of publication for a Stormwater
Discharge permit from the Colorado Department of Health,
provide a map that locates all surface water diversion
structures, berms, check dams, etc.
k. What are the results of the wetlands re-evaluation study?
What has been learned about the "man-made wetland" in the
north central part of Dowe Flats?
7. Exhibit H - Wildlife Information
Please comment on the progress and results, if completed, of
the black-footed ferret study and the burrowing owl study.
These studies will need to be completed and evaluated before
mining activity can begin.
You imply that raptor habitat enhancement substitutes for
prairie dog town lose. Would this create an imbalance of the
raptors to prey ratio (i.e. too many raptors for the prey
base)?
