~ • i
large amounts waste rock to the surface for deposition. The current mining
plans would involve the removal of rock primarily the width of the ore
zones so that there would be little waste rock produced. Any waste rock
' generated will be backfilled underground where possible, or brought to the
surface and distributed along the existing waste rock dump.
' In addition to the underground mining, it is planned that the
southerly-most portion of the existing waste rock dump be excavated and
'I ' removed from the site. The Exhibit E2 map illustrates the location of the
' waste rock dump and the approximate portion to be removed. Excavation of
the pile will take place with frontend loaders (Cat. 966 or similar
l , equipment) and dozers (Cat. D-7 or D-8) and/or hydraulic excavators. The
portion of the dump which would be removed is about an acre in total area.
' The material will be directly loaded into haul trucks and transported from
the site elsewhere for milling.
'
Surface support structures would include buildings for use as an
office and change room, generator building and tool storage, etc.
Buildings for these facilities currently exist on site and will be suitably
' renovated as necessary. Additional buildings may be constructed as needed.
No topsoil was salvaged from previous operations. Because the
majority of activity will be confined to the existing affected area, it is
' not likely that any native soil will be encountered, other than possibly
some beneath a portion of the waste dump to be removed. (Refer to Exhibit B
' for further information regarding the soils and vegetation resources in
this area). If any soil is encountered beneath the dump to be excavated,
' it will not be removed and stockpiled but left in place and seeded.
' Details of the reclamation plan are given in Exhibit D.
The roads to the site have existed for a number of decades and also
1
' -17-
