The operation will require no water usage for washing of material. With
the material to be used on existing gravel roads as finish base and
surface material, fines in the material will provide a binder. If water
is needed at the site for any unforeseen reason, it will be acquired
from an off-site source.
From observing the previous disturbance at the site, there is no
evidence of refuse, acid-forming or toxic producing materials on site,
therefore no encounter of such materials during this project is
expected. If any such materials are exposed, contact with the Colorado
Department of Health will be made and their recommendations will be
followed.
v
Berms will be placed in any areas necessary to contain stormwaters on
site during the operation of the pit. Final reclamation will address
stormwaters.
The purpose of this project is to produce finish base and road surface
material for County roads and primarily Phantom Canyon Road. This site
was selected because of its location and that very little preparation of
the material will be required. There is a small amount of organic soil
on site, with the remainder of the material consisting of decomposing
granite at various stages of decomposition. Due to this type of
deposit, it is anticipated that the material will be extracted, loaded
and placed on roadways, crushing should take place during extraction by
the dozer traveling over the material. In the extreme, crushing and/or
screening may be required. There will be no processing that include
leaching, milling, washing or batch plants of any type on this site.
i. ..
