The mining operation will be
started as soon as all local and state permits have been obtained. The
life of the mine is predicted to be ten years.
Mining will start in the existing disturbance, which will be taken down
another four to five feet. Mining will then continue to the South,
leaving a undisturbed barrier on the West side of pit between the pit
and the Teller County Road. The removal of topsoil will take place on
an as need to basis as the excavation moves to the South. Removal of
top soil will vary from two inches to eight inches and will be placed in
the configuration of a berm as a visual barrier on the West side of the
pit near the entrance.
The material at the site has virtually no overburden. The predicted
mining depth is thirty feet to forty feet.
The mining operation will be conducted by the county road crews on a
need basis with a minimal amount of stockpiling to be done. The
equipment to be used in the operation will consist of a bulldozer to
scrape and pile the material, a front-end loader to load dump trucks so
that material may be transported to use sites. There may be an
occasional need to screen and stockpile material. On these occasions,
stockpiles will be located as shown on the map or located in previously
mined areas.
The area disturbed by mining will be a irregular shaped tract,
containing approximately nine and eight-tenths acres. Approximate
dimensions for the site are as follows;
Southwesterly - - 700 feet,
Northwesterly - - 975 feet,
Northeasterly - - 180 feet,
Southeasterly - - 1150 feet.
The subject parcel adjoins Teller County Road #86 (AKA Phantom Canyon
Road) and access is gained from said road. No new construction of roads
will be necessary. The reason for the project is to improve existing
county roads.
From all preliminary investigations, there are no indications that
ground water will be encountered throughout the entire project.
,~ ~.~..
