Page 8
Response -The Division believes the gravel operation will have very little affect on
groundwater. Only a relatively small amount of water used for dust suppression will escape
the operationto the groundwatersystem. That water will be filtered by the sand and gravel
under the gravel operation, before it reaches the groundwatertable, and then it will be filtered
by the aquifer sand and gravel as it moves laterally toward one of the azea streams. The
water should be essentially as clean as the natural groundwater before it leaves the permit
area or enters a surface flow.
3. "Sedimentation and pollution of Tallahassee Creek and the Arkansas River, due to
inadequate erosion/sediment control plans."
(M. Brown, T. Rand)
Response - (see Response for No. 1 above).
4. "The plan to pump 30,000 g.p.d. from groundwatermay adversely affect resident wells and
deplete the water table."
(D. Burch, B. Kreiger)
Response -The applicant has abandoned the original plan to install a well to pump
groundwater.
5. "It is a hazard being on the mainstream of a flood plain."

Response -The applicant's plans aze to keep, his entire operation, except bridge abutments
and approaches, out of the 100-yeaz flood plain azea. The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers
has reviewed the plans to construct the bridges and has informed the applicant that he can
do so under Nationwide Permit No. 14.
6. "The sediment control plans are not adequate to prevent damage to wetlands and the Canon
City water supply."
(T Rand)
Response - (See Response for No. l .)
