• •
MINING, PLAN - EXHIBIT "C"
ANID4AS AGGREGATES, INC. THOMAS PIT
The Thomas Pit lies two miles Noz'th of Hermosa; Colo7rad0~~
in the Animas River Flood Plain, It is used as a source for
sand, gravel and concrete aggregates.
The area was once the site for a gold dredging operation
O~`~
~'~
which left a large hole and a channel West of the river's main
stream. This hole is above surface water level during most of
the year, but during the Spring of each year, the river rises
enough to deposit gravel and sand in this channel and the hole.
The Sand and Gravel is then removed from the hole with
dozers, front - end loaders and trucks as required.
If dewatering is required, the water is pumped to settling
ponds before returning to the Animas River. Because no topsoil
is present in this area, stripping has not been required.
The entire operation consists of removing sand and gravel only
and then processing for the desired aggregate.
