• Light-Use Roads. In 2004 there will be approximately 4.0 miles of light-use roads that will be
reclaimed. As a general rule, these roads are not surfaced. The subgrade will be ripped, and the
cut/fills will be graded to cover the surface material. The culverts and embankments will be removed,
topsoil respread, and the area revegetated. Please see appropriate worksheets in Attachment 25-1 for
calculations.
Haul Roads. There are approximately 4.7 miles of haul road that will need to be reclaimed. The
surfacing material will be hauled to the pit and buried as part of the final pit grading. See appropriate
worksheets in Attachment 25-1 for reclamation costs.
Permanent Roads. There are approximately 4.2 miles of permanent haul roads. These roads will be
narrowed to 20 foot wide for postmining use (see Tab 13 for detailsl. These roads will take the place
of jeep trails that existed in the area prior to mining and add transportation routes that were not
available prior to mining. Refer to appropriate worksheets Attachment 25-1 for reclamation activities.
Fleet Determination
• Once the volumes for the various phases of reclamation were determined, the number of shifts, hours
per shift, equipment types, operator/operating efficiencies, support equipment, and overall reclamation
time'span had to be determined. The following discussion provides the considerations utilized in
determining the equipment fleet needed.
Production Shifts. One shift per day was used for topsoiling and finish grading. Two shifts per day
was used for open pit backfilling. Shifts were based on an eight-hour period per shift. A conservative
operating efficiency of 83 percent was used to account
for decreased productivity due to operator efficiency for scrapers. Fifty min/hr was used for dozers
due to other factors, taking darkness into consideration.
Equipment Type. The types of equipment selected were based on similar type equipment presently
operating at the mine site or could prudently be brought in for a job of this magnitude. Whenever
possible, Caterpillar equipment was used for reclamation due to widely published information regarding
costs and performance. All equipment costs were taken from those provided by CDMG. Please see
appropriate worksheets in Attachment 25-1 for a list of all cost factors. Equipment performance was
based on Cat Handbook No. 30, FPC, Means, or otherwise as noted.
u
6 Revised 11/00
