Limited-Results Cultural Resource Survey Form (page 3 of 4)
LITERATURE REVIEW (continued)
25. Known Cultural Resources
In the project area: none known
In the general region: none known
26. Expected Results: Possible historic mining related sites, but because of the density of the vegetation and
the steepness of the terrain we are unlikely to observe any cultural resources in the project area.
VI. STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVES
27. Identify and assess any cultural resources within potential area of effect
VII. F[ELD METHODS
28. Definitions: Site: five or more artifacts or a feature, structure or trail, or any combination of these
elements meeting OAHP criteria in a discrete location that is believed to represent the
locus of patterned human activity.
IF: four or fewer artifacts without evidence of or potential for additional cultural
materials or features in the immediate vicinity.
29. Describe Survey Method; 100 foot condor surveyed in two pedestrian transects spaced at approximately
15 to where vegetation and terrain allowed. Where vegetation was thickest pedestrian transects concentrated
on small clearings and disturbed pathways where visibility was [he best.
VIII. RESULTS
•
30. List IFs, if applicable. Indicate IF locations on the map completed for Part III.
A. Smithsonian Number: Description:
B. Smithsonian Number: Description:
C. Smithsonian Number: Description:
D. Smithsonian Number: Description:
31. Using your professional knowledge of the region, why are there none or very limited cultural remains
in the project area? Is there subsurface potential?: The steepness of the terrain coupled with the
vegetation thickness contribute to the lack of cultural remains in the project area. The thin and rocky
colluvial soil also exhibits no potential for subsurface cultural deposits.
•
