1

t

is approximately 4 miles, The length of line 4 is 1.75 miles.
Methods and Equipment
Detailed methodologies of data collection of the proposed lines
currently in a preliminary stage and will not be finalized until
specific field tests are conducted. The following discussion is
for high resolution seismic surveys that have been conducted for
exploration in this general area.
is
site-
typical
coal
The acquisition of data along these lines will consist of detonating an
' energy source consisting of a 1/3 pound explosive. This energy source
will typically be placed in a shallow borehole from 24" to 20' below the
surface. The "shot" spacing will be approximately every 50 feet along
' the trace of the line. Data recording will be through geophones spaced
along the trace of the line and recorded from pick-up mounted equipment.
' The shot holes will be drilled by rubber-tired, ATV-type auger drills
which minimize any surface disturbance. This equipment can travel
overland without the need for road access or site preparation. Depending
' upon ground conditions and access availability, a small (GD-1200 type or
smaller) conventional rotary drill rig may also be utilized to drill the
shot holes. Likewise, this equipment will also travel overland with
' minimal surface disturbance. No road preparation or drill pad
construction will be required.
' Equipment which will be utilized during this survey will consist of one
of the above mentioned drills, and three to four 4 x 4 pickup trucks for
the seismic crew and Cottonwood Land Company representative.
' Upon completion of the seismic work, all holes will be back filled with
the drill cuttings, and any surface disturbances created will be properly
' mitigated,
These seismic surveys are planned to be conducted in the summer or fall
seasons when ground disturbances will be minimal. It is expected that
four lines will be conducted within a two week time period.
' 3482.1(a)(3)v - Estimated Timetable for Drilling and Reclamation
Activities.
' It is anticipated that drilling activities will commence promptly after
approval of this license application and continue as weather conditions
allow. It is expected that drilling can be conducted between the months
' of June through February.
Reclamation activities will be conducted concurrently with and
' 28
