round operation, with the exception of early spring and mid-fall
~, when ground conditions are unfavorable. Between one and three
rotary drill rigs capable of rotary drilling and spot coring the
' coal interval of interest will be utilized. The primary
circulation medium will be water with drilling mud. In the event
that subsurface conditions allow, air or an air/foam medium may
be utilized. Water for drilling will be obtained from local
' stockponds. Drilling operations are planned to commence
immediately upon approval and continue as weather and ground
conditions allow. It is currently planned that drilling will be
' conducted on a twenty four hour basis in order to minimize the
total time required. It is anticipated that access road
maintenance will be minimal, as the intent is to conduct the
' majority of the exploration efforts during the dry months. In
the event that mid-winter drilling is necessary, gates specified
by Colorado Division of Wildlife will be kept locked to preclude
public use, and any areas of critical winter range for elk will
' be avoided, as so directed by CDOW.
' Estimated Size and Depth of Holes
Holes will be a nominal 6.25" in diameter and vary in depths from
' 530 to 2300 feet. The anticipated total depths and location of
each hole are presented in Table 1.
It is anticipated that the floor, roof, and coal seam of interest
will be cored for each hole. These cores will be characterized
for coal quality and rock strength parameters. It is
anticipated that the majority of holes will extend approximately
30 feet below the Wolf Creek Coal Seam with some extending into
the top of the Trout Creek Sandstone.
' Geophysical Logging
Geophysical logging of all drill holes is planned. The suite of
' logs run on each hole may include: density, gamma, caliper,
neutron, focused electric, sonic, verticality, temperature and
conductivity.
' Equipment
' Rotary drilling and coring at the sites will be completed using a
rubber-tired, truck mounted drilling rig. Support equipment may
consist of a water truck, pipe truck and/or pipe trailer, rig-up
' truck, an air compressor, core trailer, and two or three 4 X 4
pickups for the drill crews and company representatives. This
assembly is generally referred to as a "drilling unit". One to
' three drilling units may be utilized at any one time during the
completion of this project.
19
