• Miller; Reconnaissance of Ground-Water Resources in a part of the
Yampa River Basin between Craig and Steamboat Springs, Colorado, U.S.
Geologic Survey Water-Resources Investigations Report 77-4, 1977, by
R.E. Brogden and T.F. Giles; Surface Geologic Map of the Twentymile
Park Area, 1977, and proprietary maps. The above referenced maps
were drawn using aerial photography, ground reconnaissance and
subsurface drilling and geophysical techniques. The information
compiled from these references has been verified by field
observations.
The alluvial deposits in the drainage of Middle and Fish, Creeks and
their tributary stream channels were mapped using the geomorphic
criteria of slope breaks, where the essentially flat-lying stream laid
deposits meet the sloping valley walls. Terraces are included in the
floodplain deposits. Areas where unconsolidated deposits have been
removed by erosion do not meet the applicable geomorphic criteria.
• Unconsolidated stream-laid deposits in the proposed permit and
adjacent area were mapped in detail by field checking the surficial
geology and digging backhoe pits to determine the litho logy of the
stream-laid deposits. In addition, the low-lying areas which contain
alluvial deposits were field checked to verify the existence or non-
existence of stream channels 3.0 feet wide and 0.5 feet deep, which
meet the definition of "unconsolidated stream-laid deposits holding
streams" in Rule 1.04. Ephemeral drainages containing alluvial
deposits with stream channels not meeting the size criteria of the
above definition were not mapped in the intermittent and perennial
drainages traversing the proposed permit and adjacent area.
Alluvial deposits were found in the floodplain of Middle Creek near
the proposed permit area. Middle Creek headwaters are located in the
Routt National Forest in Township 3N, Range 87W and the stream flows
north through Twentymile Park into Trout Creek outside the general
• area.
2.06-12
