Benson Brothers Pig Mesa Pit
DMG 112 Application
Exhibit E- Reclamation Plan
reclamation. Topsoil stockpiles will be stabilized by broadcasting the seed mix as described in
3.1.9 above. Overburden will be accessible for backfilling and final grading as needed. The
topsoil will be spread after final grading and ripping of overburden. Re-vegetation will be done
according the details described in (f) below unless approval for a platted residential subdivision
is obtained from Delta County.
e) Reclamation if this site will consist of reducing high-walls to 3:1 (h:v) and maintaining the pit
floor at or near final grade as mining progresses. A minimum of 1 foot of gravel will remain on
top of the shale on the final pit floor. The high-walls on the northwest perimeter will be sloped
as mining from east to west is completed and mining begins to move north to south. High
walls on the east and west will be reduced to 3:1 slopes concurrently as mining moves to the
south. A maximum of 1200 feet of un-reduced high wall will exist at any one time. Topsoil
will be replaced on 3:1 slopes as soon as the final slope is created and ripped. Ripping, topsoil
replacement and revegetation will be done on the pit floor as soon as mining progresses so that
these azeas will not be re-disturbed. We expect the life of the mine to be approximately 15
years with the tazget date of fall of 2020 for completion of mining activities
f) (i) Final grading will leave approximately 25 feet azound the perimeter of the affected land at
original grade with a 3:1 slope down to the pit floor. The pit floor will slope at approximately
1% to the northeast where it will merge with natural slope down to the Tongue Creek Valley
(ii) Landscaping for the subdivision will be part of the plot plan to be specified in the county
subdivision process. The alternate reclamation plan of revegetating the site will use
recommendations from the Natural Resources Conservation Services report in Exhibit I and
some suggestions of DMG staff. The seed will be drilled, at the rate indicated below, between
October 25 and April 30, after replacement of topsoil on reclaimed areas. Straw mulch will be
crimped into the soil with tracked equipment at a rate of 1 ton/acre after seeding.
Proposed seed mix
Species Drilled lbs/ac
Western Wheatgrass 4.0
Yellow Sweet Clover 1.0
Crested Wheatgrass 1.0
Four-wing saltbush .5
Shadscale _5
Total 7.0
(iii) Fertilization will be done in the second year after seeding. Appropriate fertilizer and
application rate will be determined by soil test prior to application.
(iv) There will be no trees planted with this reclamation plan.
(v) Topsoil will be replaced on the 3:1 slopes, and in the pit floor at a depth of 4 to 8
inches.
