~ III IIIlillllllll III ~
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
David H. Gefches, Execulrve Director
MIND LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C SNELTON, Director
Richard D. Lamm
Governor
August 30, 1985
Harold Hurst
P.0. Box 276
Elizabeth, CO 80107
RE: Miller-Berends Pit, File M-85-129
Dear Mr. Hurst:
We have reviewed this application for adequacy with the Minerals Law and
promulgated rules and regulations. During this review, some concerns were
raised which are listed below. Please respond, using the same format as
depicted below, by October 1, 1985.
Exhibit D - Mining Plan
What is the average depth mining will occur? `fit
„To what depth will topsoil be salvaged? The stockpile of topsoil on the
~,~•v east side should be graded to no steeper than 3H: 1V and seeded with a
fast-growing species to maintain soil quality and quantity since this
O~pile is to remain for more than one growing reason.
Will the permit area be staked? If not, how does the operator propose to
`res ensure mining activities will remain inside the permit boundaries?
~4.` Will any sediment control structures or ditches be installed to keep
o~L sediment-laden water from flowing off-site? If not, how does the
operator propose to minimize effects to the hydrologic balance?
The Division is concerned that as mining progresses to the southwest,
areas will be reclaimed between the mine area and the process area. Will
O~ temporary roads be installed to provide access through these reclaimed
areas? If not, how does the operator propose to ensure reclaimed areas
are not redisturbed?
3 How many acres will be encompassed by the process area?
Please be aware that topsoil needs to be salvaged from the access road
p~~for future reclamation purposes of this road.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
