M44). An old homestead had developed a cement Livestock tank and watering basin, <br />and five intermittent drainage branches merge 500 feet above the site. The s8mp- <br />ling site was a[ a flowing section with 'a- series of small 'dr'ops down a headcut <br />about 3 feet wide and 6 feet high. Temperature readings were not taken. <br />The bottom was mud, silt and small gravel. The samples°weie cleaned in'the field <br />and composited. <br />Six taxa of benthic macroinvertebrates were id entified'(MBriah, 1980). Members <br />of one obligate rheophile species of the Trichoptera (Caddieflies) order were <br />present (Hesperophylax sp.), and were~the most numerous of gall the taKa'repre- <br />sen[ed. <br />Midges (Procladius sp.) and crane fly -larvae (Tipulidae) were the second most <br />com<son specimens. All the others were represented by only one or two:specimena. <br />Hesperophlyax,species are found primarily in lotic and len[ic habitats including <br />~, small temporary streams (Merritt and Cummins, 1978), -and occasiotially'in mo~frttain <br />lakes (Pennak, 1978). <br />All other drainages examined were dry during the sampPing period.
