1 hls lolls Intv~metio+t is nvl site
specific. Onsite investigation,
testing and analysis by eompeterrt
personnel is needed before construe 4 , 89
tion or other engineering use of soils.
79--Nunn clay loam, 2 to 6 percent slopes. This deep, well
drained soil is on fans, fan terraces, antl foot slopes. It formed :n
alluvium. Tha native vegetation is mainly grasses. Elevation is
5,900 to 6,500 feet. Tha average annual precipitation is 12 to 16
inches, the average annual air temperature is 47 to 51 degrees r, and
the average frost-free period is 130 to 150 days.
Typically, the surface layer is Drown clay loam about 4 inches
thick. Th• subsoil is clay loam about 28 inches thick. The
substratum to a depth of 60 ~nchas or more is clay loam. The soil is
neutral to a depth of 10 inches and moderately alkaline below that
depth. In the SE1/4 of Sec. 11, T. 17 S., R. 67 W, are red soils
similar to Nunn.
Included in this unit is about 5 percent Wages loam on steeper
• areas. The Wages soil has a less clayey subsoil than this Nunn soil.
Also included are small areas of Nunn stony loam on upland breaks and
upland drainageways.
Permeability of this Nunn slow soil is moderately slow or slow.
Available water capacity is high. Effeetiv• rooting depth is 60
inches or more. Runoff is slow to rapid, and the hazard of water
erosion is slight to high.
This unit is used for rangeland.
The potential plant community on this unit is mainly western
wheatgrass, blue grams, naedleandthread, prairie ~unegrass, and little
bluestem. Tha average annual production of air-dry vegetation is
about 1,200 pounds per acre. If the condition of the range
deteriorates, blue grams, red thraeawn, fringed sagebrush, and
walkingstick cholla increase. Range seeding is suitable if the rang?
- is in poor condition.
i
-~ I
