In some areas this unit consists of large <br />coal mine tailings piles. Groups of piles form a hilly landscape. <br />Also included are a few gravel pits and quarries about 10 to 40 acres <br />in size. In Sec. 16, T. 19 S., R. 70 W. is a large system of <br />tailings ponds that store wastes of ors millings. These areas are <br />barren or nearly barren. <br />This unit also includes several delineations of mixed piles and <br /> <br />nearly level fill in Sac. 5 and 8, T. 19 S., R. 70 W. This is an old <br />industrial area. consisting mainly of level fill pads and piles of <br />earth and coal mine spoil. Ths fill material consists mainly of thin <br />stratifications of sandy loam, loam, and sand earth and thin layers of <br />coal chips. These areas are psrtially revagatated today with grasses <br />and shrubs. Tall rabbitbrush is a common shrub. <br />Delineations of this unit era about 5 to 160 acres in size. <br />This map unit is in capability subclass VIIIs. <br /> <br />/.?5 <br />
