Mining Phase
ear or Activity De cription of Minine and Other Disturbance Activities
Mining
Phase 1B Phase 1B mines 25± acres of Parcel B. Approximately 4± acres of this parcel,
within the low Dow channel of the S. Platte River, will be left undisturbed,
except for any channel improvements required by UD&FCD and any
disturbance for support structures for the conveyor. The mining proposed on
this parcel is expected to be completed within the 1" year, and will create
approximately 25+_ acres of temporary lake area. The 25± acres does include
some area within 400' of the S. Platte River channel. As mining within 400' of
the S. Platte River channel requires approval by UD&FCD and agreement on
what S. Platte River channel improvements should be installed as a condition
ofapproval, no mining will occur without such approval and agreement. This
400' area is shown on Exhibit C-2, Mining Plan Map.
Mining will involve the excavation and storage of 6-12"± of topsoil,
excavation and storage of overburden material, and the excavation of
aggregate material and export to Parcel C for processing. This mining will
also be part of 1" Phase of mining. The proposed mining setbacks are: 50'
from any of the three PSCo. towers, 35' from the top of existing old berm
along the east side of the S. Platte River, 50' from the west outside top bank
of the Fulton Ditch, and 35' from the nearest non-pressurized water discharge
pipeline in the southwest corner of the property. The Easement Detail on
Exhibit C-2, Mining Plan Map shows the location of the easement for this
pipeline and the other two pipelines in this area. Prior to excavation being
undertaken, this pipeline will be located in the field to insure this excavation
setback is followed. Once again, the last setback would also mean that the
closest mining would be 85'± to any of the PSCo. tower structures and much
more than 35' to a proposed second non-pressurized water pipeline and the
existing Sinclair gasoline pipeline.
Installation of
Conveyor- At the same time Phase lA and 1B are being excavated another activity that
is expected to take place the 1" year is the installation of the conveyor across
the S. Platte River. The conveyor will need a minimum of two support
structures in the otherwise undisturbed S. Platte River channel area. Approval
of UD&FCD and a Floodplain Use permit will be obtained for construction
of these support structures.
4
