Dept. of NaturalL Resorces September 12, 1978
Mr. Roger Funston
Mined Land Reclamation Board
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado
Dear Mr. Funston,
As a property owner adjacent to land owned by Best Way
Paving Company, Greeley, Colorado, I am concerned about the
up coming public hearing by the Mined Land Reclamation Board.
In a public notice publiehed in the Greeley Tribune in August,
the public hearing was scheduled for September 27 or 28 in
Denver. Since then, we have learned that the September meeting
will be held in Steamboat Springs. I find this change of
location extemely disconcerting. Best Way Paving Company is
surrounded on three sides by dense residential housing which
will definitely be affected by the proposed mining expansion.
Of the approximately 500 homeowners in the area, a majority,
81 .25%, are against the proposed gravel mining operation.
In consideration to these homeowners, I ask that the board
consider changing the Best Way Hearing to a more convenient
location so that the people who will be affected can voice their
opinion and concerns.
Second, I have read the mining and reclamation plan
submitted by R.V. Lord and Associates for Best Way Paving
Company and found numerous problems which I feel have not
adequately been answered. They are outlined as follows :
