B. Ductile Iron Pipe <br />Bedding for ductile iron pipe passing through embankments, or as noted on <br />drawings, is to consist of approximately 3 feet of Type 1 material <br />surrounding the pipe and hand compacted to 100% Standard Proctor Density. <br />• C. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Pipe <br />Bedding for PVC pipe passing through embankments, or as noted on <br />drawings, is to consist of approximately 3 feet of Type 1 material <br />surrounding the pipe and hand compacted to 100% Standard Proctor Density. <br />2.06 Appurtenances <br />All appurtenances are to be constructed of the product shown on the Drawings or <br />an approved equal <br />PART 3 -EXECUTION <br />3.01 Handling of Materials <br />Pipe and fittings shall be loaded and unloaded by lifting so as to avoid shock or <br />damage. Under no circumstances shall such material be dropped. P.V.C. pipe <br />which must be stored in the open for extended periods shall be protected from <br />- direct sunlight. <br />3.02 Preparation and Inspection of Pipe and Fittings for Installation <br />~~ Before placing pipe each pipe or fitting shall be thoroughly cleaned of all Foreign <br />- material, kept clean at all times thereafter, and carefully examined for cracks and <br />other defects before installation. Bell ends and spigot ends are to be examined <br />-' with particular care. <br />3.03 Pipe Joint Lubricant <br />Joint lubricant shall be as supplied by the pipe manufacturer. <br />3.04 Cutting and Fitting of Pipe <br />Pipe shall be cut, whenever necessary, to conform to location of fittings, line or <br />grade. All cuts shall be straight and true, in a workmanlike manner so as to leave a <br />smooth end without damaging the pipe. All burrs shall be removed from the ends of <br />cut pipe, and the end lightly rasped or filed. <br />3.05 Pipe Alignment and Grade <br />In laying pipe, the intent is to lay to set line and grade within a tolerance of zero <br />above or 0.1 feet below. Fittings and valves shall be installed at specified locations <br />and elevations. <br />3.06 Temporary Bulkheads <br />_ • Whenever the pipe is left unattended, temporary plugs shall be installed at all <br />openings. Temporary plugs shall be watertight and of such design as to prevent <br />children and animals from entering the pipe. All temporary plugs shall he approved <br />by the Inspector. <br />- 02520-4 <br />
