C. Unclassified Excavation <br />Material to be excavated includes all material other than rock excavation, <br />Type 1 material, Type 2 material and topsoil, including, but not restricted to <br />earth, gravel and all such hard and compact material such 8s hardpan, soft <br />and disintegrated bedrock, etc. <br />D. Rock Excavation <br />Rock excavation will consist of all bedrock and fractured rock which cannot <br />be removed by ripping, dozing or other conventional means. <br />2.02 Borrow Materials <br />Where borrow excavation is necessary, the excavated material shall be obtained <br />from borrow areas within the site as designated by the Engineer. Should borrow <br />areas within the site be insufficient or unsuitable for the required material, the <br />Contractor shall obtain materiels from other sources. The Contractor shall make <br />all necessary arrangements to obtain the additional borrow material from other <br />sources, including all royalty and other charges involved. Borrow materiels shall be <br />selected to meet the requirements and conditions for backf~ll or embankment for <br />_ which it is to be used. All borrow materials shall be approved by the Engineer prior <br />• to depositing on the site. Upon completion of the work, all borrow areas, whether <br />on or off the site, shall be left in a neat and workmanlike condition as directed by <br />the Engineer. All borrow areas shall be left free draining unless specifically <br />treated as a "pond" with the approval of the property land owner. <br />2.03 Backfill Material <br />A. Type 1 Material <br />The Contractor shall use on-site materials which are in reasonable <br />conformance with the following gradations and properties. Imported <br />material used to augment Type 1 material supplies will not be approved <br />unless it conforms to the following criteria: <br />1.
