Landscape planting as it has been developed by Sterling companies downstream from the site now under study should be, in part, a criteria for future land use planning in the flood plain. Your commitment to restore the land to a condition that better facilitates wildlife and recreational usEl is consistent with the Fort Collins Green Belt develop- ment plans along the Poudre River. The property lends i itself to a separation of various recreational uses, such as horseback trails, foot paths and nature trails. ~ Therefore I have designated routes for the various recreational uses on the preliminary landscape plan. ' Such designated routes merge at the Taft Hill river j crossing and again at the west (upstream) end of your i property. This is not only compatible with the Greer. ~ Belt concept but should provide some interesting variety ' if ever the Green Belt system is achieved and the necessary rights of way are granted. ' The preliminary landscape plan is necessarily conceptual. I feel certain that final considerations for details such as total number and size of each species ' of plant material should be weighed very carefully and given further thought so that wildlife habitation and ~ recreational activities can exist harmoniously. ' ~ I have identified by color code the important land- ' scape planting treatments which provide revegetation to ' best satisfy the intended use, to-wit: (1) overhead shade canopy; (2) understory, intensive planting of native I shrubs - wildlife habitat; and (3) ground cover - native grasses.
