rlr. Fbwrd B. Tingley
February 17. 1981
Page ltto
eh~ statf rscosmtads the maintenance of a 25 foot grassed butfsr of
separation between the canal and the proposed mining activities. Tha Grass
buffers should help to reduce the amount of eadin:ent transported to off-
aite areas ae a result of on-site surface disturbance.
S. Please spscily how reclamation will occur on the nettling pond. Ths staff
rseo~ids that the berm be leveled over the final pond prior to asedbed
preparation. If the hem is to remain es ie, the harm slopoa should ba
reduced to 3: 1. and all compacted ereae should be ripped prior to ssadbad
preparation.
6. On all arose whets surface activitise will occur (e.g., excavation. stock-
piling, on-site traffic and parking locations). 12 to 18 inches of Potts
loam soil end 8 to 12 inches of Vann Sandy Loam should be removed (prior to
surface disturbance), sepreaated, sad stockpiled separately from one ano-
ther. The approximate location and ertsat of the stockpiles should ba
identified on the Riming Plan Hap. All cosQtactad arau should be ripped,
prior to topsoil replacement and seedbsd preparation, to a depth of 12
inches under dry soil or overburden conditions. The Fluvsnt topaoll should
also be removed and stockpiled to an extent which would alloy the minimum
replacement of 6 inches of the Copeoil to affected Ianda remaining above
eater, where snch Fluvente originally occurred. Excess Pluventa could be
utilised in the construction of the proposed settling pond berm. Ateae
which will remain under eater will not requite Copsoil replacement.
7. Pleass bs sore specific as to the nature of the on-site generated dsbria
other than treas. Vesta forget or woody vegetation should ba placed along
the river and southerly pond banks under the following guidelines if
optiamm cover ie to be established:
a. Place or stack material in piles not Co exceed 5 feet in height by
10 feet in length by 10 to 15 feat in width.
b. Separate piles by 20 to 30 foot sections of grassed open apace.
c. Do not pwh material in with a doser or in a moaner which would
intermix soil or overburden with the vegetation.
d. The piles should be eompriaed predominantly of slash from elu bucked
boles of the tress. Soma boles and root balls can bs included. The
remnindsr of the boles and root balls can be placed in the final pond
for aquatic habitat and twat. Too much vsQatatiw material in the
pond could result is premature autrophieation of the pond. thsrsfors
sateen material may need to be hauled from the site or utilized as
firewood. Large rocks should be atoekpiled and utilized for rip-rap
or included in the final pond bottom.
8. Plaaee Illustrate the location sad extent of any significant doer crossings
which intersect tlu site. fibers neseasary, maasursa should ba developed
which would provide for the aafaty sad protsetion of dear on rheas crossings
during czitical periods.
9. Plaaee give a more detailed description of the percent cover of the mayor
species of vebstation presently occurring on the site. Whsra poaaibla,
measures should ba taken to protest nature cottoavoods.
