establishment, growth, and development, current technology requires that herbaceous competition in <br />• woody plant azeas must be reduced or elimvtated. <br />The reclaited areas in the Yoast Mine azea are irregulazly shaped and not extensive. Much of the <br />reclaimed area outside of the haul road corridor is 1000 feet ox less wide in disturbance. In the actual <br />mining disturbance azea, the widest point of total disturbance is approximately 2800 feet wide with <br />much of this area 2000 feet wide or less. The disturbed areas of greatest width are to receive the <br />concenrtated shrub establishment azeas. Extensive undisturbed woody vegetation surrounds all lands <br />to be reclaimed and the perimeter of the reclaimed areas will be irregularly shaped. The increase in <br />edge and regional habitat diversity provided by these reclaimed lands will reduce the need for <br />extensive woody plant densities in the reclaimed landscape. <br />A shrub density standard is not proposed for the haul road corridor for the following reasons. The <br />maximum width of the disturbance area is approximately 200 feet, representing a minimal disturbance <br />in relation to the suaounding azea. Also, the extensive shrub stands, which domiaate the azea, will be <br />complimented by the addition of azeas with succulent herbaceous forage. Both livestock and wildlife <br />will be benefited from this greater diversity of habitat. <br />• Seasonal Variety. <br />Revegetation success for seasonal variety in the reclaimed azeas will not be evaluated since neazly ail <br />the species in the premising vegetation types axe cool season speaes. The seed mixes have been <br />developed to establish the speaes best adapted to the site, while also establishing species of the same <br />seasonal variety. Thus, since the seed mixes are dominated by cool season speaes and any <br />reestablishing native speaes aze prinapally cool season speaes, seasonal variety measurements aze not <br />necessary. <br />Literature Cited <br />Agnew, W. 1991.
