TAis responds to your September 21, 1994, letter requesting a letter cf review
concerning threatened and endangered species for your 1994-1996 drilling
program located southwest of tiha Town of ~ratg in Moffat County, Colorado.
To comply with section 7(c) o: the tndangored Species act of 191'3, as amended,
Federal agencies or their designees are r~guired to obtain from the Service
information concerning aqy ap:;eies or critical habitat, listed or proposed to
be listed. which oay be preset;t in the area of a pproposed construction
project. lie are furnishing yiu the fallowing list of species which may be
present in the concerned area:

Critical habitat has been proposed for the Colorado squawfish. humpback chub,
boaytatl, and razorbacksl5cklr within the 100-year flondplain in portions of
their historic range (58 FR 6578). Destruction or adverse modification of
critical habitat is defined ia. 50 CFR 402.02 as a direct or indirect
alteration that appreciably d:arinishas the value of critical habitat far both
the survival and recovery of ~, listed species.
The lead Federal aganry fnr Endangered Species Act (ESA) section 7
Consultation should review their proposed Federal action and deternine if the
action wnu1A affAet any Tisted species. If the determination 1s 'may affect'
for listed species, the Federal agency oust request in writing foreal
consultation from our office. At this time, a biological assessment should bo
provided to this office and/or any other relevant information used in making
the •.mpact determinations. '
