f
•
EXHIBIT D
• MINING PLAN

The Fisher pit is a compliance plan pit where considerable mining of
gravel material has occurred during past years. Presently there are
large areas within the affected area where material has been sufficiently
depleted that no future mining is anticipated. Additionally, there are
numerous stockpiles of material being used as highway construction and
maintenance needs arise.
Therefore mining activity will be of a limited nature and will involve:
(1) the gradual depletion of existing stockpiles, and (2) should the need
for further material arise, excavation along the north slopes of the pit
area.
Prior to any excavation, the top 6-12" of overburden will be stripped
and stockpiled for future reclamation use.
Specific mining methods will be left to the discretion of the Division
of Highway's maintenance forces and/or the contractor. However all work
• will be done within the permitted area.
Excavation into the north slopes would be to the approximate depth of
the present pit bottom, or no more than 20'.
Surface or groundwater systems will not be affected.
Final slopes upon the completion of mining in the pit will be no steeper
than 3:l~and will slope from north to south as is presently the case.
Equipment likely to be used in the permitted area would be scrapers,
dozers, front end loaders, trucks, graders, screening and asphalt mixing
plant, tractors, seed drill, and fertilizer spreaders. _ _ _
Use of material will depend on maintenance and construction needs in
the area. However, these will be relatively short term operations and the
affected area may be used for less than 180 days per year. IJ
Material to be mined is unconsolidated sandy gravel overlying a thin
section of Ogallala and a very `thick section of Pierre Shale bedrock.
• The affected area covers less than 36 acres and contains 4.5 acres of
mining area.
ti i
