Revised
July 28, 1982
•
If the coal is to be ripped rather than shot, a bulldozer with a ripper
attachment will fragment the coal sufficiently for smooth loading oper-
ations.
Once the coal has been prepared for loading by either blasting or
ripping, a rubber-tired front end loader will move in to load the coal
into haulage trucks. Haulage trucks will transport the coal to the coal
loadout facility.
If it becomes necessary to remove hazardous material from the highwall,
a wheeled loader will be used if the the hazard is within its reach. e
Otherwise a cable drag suspended from a dozer blade will be used to
drag the face of the highwall. If this fails, the hazard will be drilled
from behind and blasted. No hazards will be removed by hand.
Any equipment broken down near a highwall will be towed a safe distance
away, if possible, before repair operations begin. If the equipment
can`t be moved, the highwall will be cable dragged before repair
operations begin and the loose material knocked down. When repair
operations begin, a man, other than the mechanic(s) will be standing
by watching the highwall for any signs of failure or hazards.
Every operator is required to do a pre-start equipment inspection and
to report any mechanical or safety defects to the head mechanic, who
in turn will take the necessary corrective aciton.
Before the drill is started a visual mechanical and safety inspection
will be made. When moved into position, stable ground conditions are
ascertained before set-up. Ground conditions are again checked before
drilling operations begin. The drill mast is pinned into the upright
positign and the manufactureer's recommended operation procedures are

a.~. 22~
