Mr. Burke Lokey -4- December 9, 1983
Also, due to the extreme severity of this site, the Division
recommends the following seed mixture. The Division has taken the
seed mixture presented in this exhibit and added a number of
species to increase the potential for successful reclamation at
this site. The rate For seeding is based upon the Soil
Conservation Service recommend 40 seeds per square foot (seeds/sq.
ft.) drill rate and 80 seedslsq. ft. broadcast rate.
Pounds Pure Live Seed
Per Acre (lbs. PLS/AC)
S ecies Drill Broadcast

Crested Wheatgrass 1.0 2.0
Siberian Wheatgrass 1.5 3.0
Streambank Wheatgrass 1.5 3.0
Thickspike Wheatgr<~ss 1.5 3.0
Sand Dropseed 0.1 0.2
Indian Ricegrass 1.5 3.0
Russian Wildrye 1.0 2.0
Fourwing Saitbush 1.5 3.0
Rubber Rabbitbrush 0_5 1_0
10.1 20.2
2. Wright Draw Gravel Pit, File No. 83-215: To prevent headward
erosion and downstream sedimentation at this site, the County
should commit to sloping the drainageway at the inlet and outlet to
no steeper than lOh:ly. Also, the upstream part of this pit
(drainage) will have to be riprapped to prevent headward erosion.
For the downstream portion of this pit, no riprap is necessary if
no ponding structure is created in the drainage. However, if a
ponding structure is created, the area from the edge of the pit
downstream must be riprapped. This rlprap is needed to dissipate
the water's energy and to insure a breach in the ponding structure
does not occur.
3. Lumsden Canyon Gravel Pit, File No. 83-216: The text for
gravel pit No. 1 spe~cifles the existing slopes should not be
disturbed since they blend in with existing slopes and have some
vegetation growing on them. Latter on the same page, however, it
mentions the material from two waste rock plies should be buried in
these side slopes. Please clarify this apparent discrepancy.
4. Lumsden Canyon Gravel Pit, File No. 83-216: The seed mixture
proposed for pits No. 1 and No. 2 Incorporate grass species that
are somewhat difficult to establish. Also, the seed mixture
proposed far exceeds the SCS recommended 40 seeds/sq. ft. drill
rate or 80 seeds/sq. ft. broadcast rate. The following seed
mixture modifies the seeding rate to conform with the SCS
recommendations and incorporate some extra grass species.
