also installed. Peabody Coal Company will periodically inspect the structure for sediment
storage, structural integrity, end hazardous conditions. Maintenance and remedial work
will be performed in accordance with the approved mine permit.
Stability Monitoring
According to the Amuedo end Ivey report regarding the pond stability and the geotechnicaL
investigations presented in Ground Engineering's report, Cne- majority of the pond
structure is located on stable ground. As an added measure of safety, stability monitor
monuments were installed at the pond es located an Exhibit 13-SA. These monuments will be
surveyed quarterly (weather permitting) to detect any movement and kept on file at the
mine. CDMG will be notified of any major movement detected and a remediation plan will be
prepared based on the severity of the situation. If no (or negligible) movement is
detected after four quarters, the information will be submitted to CDMG along with a
request to suspend the monitoring.
Construction Summary
[n accordance with Rule 4, Pert 4.05.6(7) of the Rules and Regulations of the Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Board (CM LRB) pursuant to the Colorado Surface Coel Nining
Reclamation pct 34-33-101 e[ seq., 1, Ronald J. Gehrke, hereby certify that [he
construction of Sedimentation Pond 005 was inspected and constructed under my supervision.
The construction of Pond 005 was supervised on site by Chuck NcCUlloh, Operations
Engineering Manager at the Seneca II-Y Mine. Chuck assured ell work was performed in
accordance with the design end the specifications. Thomas Yeinwright, P.E., Senior
Engineer was at the site on June 22-26, 1992, during construction of the underdrain end
embankment construction. 1 inspected the structure on July 13, 1992 to verify the pond's
pri ntipel spillway installation end embankment construction. I inspected the Pond 005 site
on August 5, 1992 to verify the as-built conditions. I, Ronald J. Gehrke, am a 1977
graduate in civil engineering and 1 have been a Registered Professional Engineer in
Colorado since November 22. 1982.
The purpose of my inspection and certification was to ensure proper construction of
Sedimentation Pond 005 and to satisfy the requirements of Rule 4.05.6(7) of the Colorado
Mined Lend Reclamation Board. The material was placed in the embankment to meet or exceed
the design specification (see Addendum E for compaction information). This es-built
report confirms the construction of this structure meets or exceeds the Rules and
Regulations of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board. The structure is stable,
evidencing no indications of slope instability.
13-3-14 Revised 08/11/92
