• hazard of erosion is slight to very high. The potential plant community
is scattered pinyon and juniper with an understory of grasses. Land uses
include rangeland, wildlife habitat, and noncommercial woodland.
p 102 Seitz gravelly fine sandy loam. This deep, well drained soil on
north-facing mountainsides was formed in alluvium and colluvium.
Typically, the surface layer is pinkish gray, gravelly fine sandy loam 15
inches thick. The upper 9 inches of the subsoil is very gravelly clay
loam. The next 10 inches is very cobbly clay. The underlying material
to a depth of 60+ inches is very cobbly sandy clay loam. The soil is
neutral. Slope is 20 to 40 percent. Permeability is slow, available
water capacity is moderate, runoff is rapid, and the hazard of erosion is
very high. The potential plant community is mainly Douglas fir with an
understory of common juniper, buffalo berry, grasses and sedges. The unit
is used for woodland, wildlife habitat, and recreation.
• p 104 Shanta loam. This deep, well drained soil found on stream terraces
was formed in alluvium. Typically, the surface layer and subsoil are
brown loam about 43 inches thick. The substratum to a depth of 60+ inches
is stratified sandy loam and loamy sand. The soil is mildly alkaline to
a depth of 2 inches and moderately alkaline below that depth. Slope is
0 to 3 percent. Permeability is moderate. Available water capacity is
high. Runoff is slow and the danger of erosion is slight. The potential
plant community is mainly grassland. Its major uses are rangeland and
non-irrigated pastureland.
N 105 Shanta Loam, dry. This deep, well drained soil of stream terraces
formed in alluvium. Its slope is 0 to 3 percent. typically, the surface
layer is grayish brown loam about 27 inches thick. The substratum to a
depth of 60+ inches is stratified sandy clay loam, loam, and silty clam
loam. The soil is mildly alkaline to a depth of 48 inches and moderately
alkaline below that depth. Permeability is moderate, available water
capacity is high, runoff is slow and the danger of erosion is slight. The
• potential plant community is grassland. The unit has a potential as
irrigated cropland but in this area would probably be used as non-
irrigated rangeland.
2.04.9-11
