• 4.18 PROTECTION OF FISH, WILDLIFE, AND RELATED ENVIRONMENTAL VALUES
As explained in Section 2.04.11, Sunbelt has contacted representatives
of the Colorado Division of Wildlife for the purpose of minimizing
disturbance and adverse impacts on the fish and wildlife located in the
permit and adjacent areas. The surface facilities for the Peacock Coal
Mine have been in place for many years; however, throughout the
continued life of the mine, Sunbelt will plan to coordinate on a
regular basis with all interested regulatory agencies to further advance
minimization of impacts and enhancement of wildlife resources.
As described in Section 2.04.11, no critical habitat or any threatened
or endangered species have been identified within the permit or adjacent
areas which might be affected by the mining operations.
The post-mining land use, as described in Section 2.05.5, will be
rangeland. Inherent with the rangeland use will be the concurrent use
• of the area by wildlife. The seed mixture proposed in Section 2.05.4
contains diversity required for wildlife which might use the permit area
for habitat. In addition, the plant species proposed in the
revegetation plan will provide cover similar to that presently
encountered on undisturbed areas of the permit and adjacent areas.
No major impact on wildlife within the permit area should occur as a
result of the continuation of the Peacock Coal Mine. A discussion of
mitigation activities for wildlife is found in Section 2.05.6.

4.18-1
