TECHNICAL REVISION #4
We believe the following revisions in the revegetation program
will be an improvement over the original permit. Because ,of rapid
lateral soil changes, we intend to sample and test extensively
prior to seeding and fertilizing. Results of that work may
require local variations of the grass mixture included here.
Grasses. As reclamation begins, the operator will collect
samples of the resoiling materiel, have the samples analyzed and
add fertilizers as indicated by test results. Topsoiled areas
should be tested again at the beginning of the second year and
fertilizer added accordingly since these sons may lose their
nutrients rapidiy.
a0 Mulch. No mulch is necessary if planting occurs at the proper
time and nt the proper depth. Yellow Sweetclover and Russian
Wild Rye are introduced to provide the shading a mulch would
provide. Both the F.ussian P7ild Rye and the Yellow Sweetclover
will die out after three to four years and will provide a mulch
for later generations of the more permanent wheatgrasses.
o`1--Weed Control. Problem weeds will be monitored closely each spring
for the first two years to determine if they are invading the
area. Weed control will be initiated if the problem becomes
serious. Weeds will be mowed in order to avoid damage to the
Yellow Sweetclover; chemical treatment would probably destroy it.
3
