The 273.3 acre-feet of water diverted through the
Highline Canal vas historically used to irrigate seventy-four
(7a) acres of pasture grass and alfalfa on the tract of land
identified in Figure 3 as 262-007. IIsing the modified
Blaney-Griddle Method (Reference 2) and temperature (Table 4)
and precipitation (Table 5) data for Nucla as derived from
the Norwood and Uravan weather stations (figure 1), the
average annual consumptive use of irrigation eater
historically used on the 74 acres vas calculated to be 114.5
sore-feet for the period 1970-1986 (Table 9). The temp-
erature and precipitation values used in the calculations
were the averages of data from the two stations. The
modified Blaney-Griddle method 3s the standard accepted
method used to calculate consumptive-use requirements for
crops in Colorado.
•
PCC therefore has a consumptive-use credit of 114.5
acre-feet of water previously used for irrigation to use as
a water supply for the mining operation and in the
augmentation plan.- The existing rights vill hovever have to
be changed to include industrial use and storage. Storage
rights associated vith the six ponds vill also be used as a
water-supply source during the non-izrigation season, as no
consumptive-use credit is available during the months of
November through March.
22
GC07RAN5.
